Hello Ee By Drummers !!

Hello Everyone What a great blog !!! Other half of Helen Drum here !! .
Thought id better show my face at some point and didnt want to miss out on all the blog fun .
I dont go to practise but you will find me either Babysitting , Lugging , fetching and carrying or generally making a nuisance of myself at EE BY DRUM events . Hope to join you all officially on a friday at some point in time !!.

Now then cos i love me tools and fixing stuff i wanted to take this opportunity to offer my services as repairer and fixer of anything that doesnt bang crash or wallop properly . And generally help to keep all your gear working and to get involved with the creation of new and interesting ways of getting a sound from hitting something !!. Am not an expert but have desire and ambition to be .

So dont be shy drop me a line im usually up for anything so if your djembe is damp or your cowbell clunks dont be afraid to ask .

Well got to go Helen's Porridge doesnt make itself you know !!.

  6. If you put hang drum into google search it comes up with loads of clips of people playing hang drums, they sound amazing (not that I'll ever be able to play em to that standard!!!!! tone deaf I am !!!) It will give you an idea of what there like and the kind of sound I'm thinking of, have a look and see what you think !!!

  7. Welcome Ecky Thump and thanks for your generous offer. I'm gonna take you up on it as
I actually have a hang drum and yes it could do with some tuning, do you think you could? I'll bring it to our next meet and maybe you could take a look....xxx

  8. Well theres syncronicity for ya or is it causality ? anyway whatever i like it . Ill certainly give the tuning a go samba sam and it will give me the chance for a good old butchers at one !!!!. now then where did i put my big hammer ?.

  9. Well if you can make a hang you're quids in because they sell for hundreds of quids and you have to go to Switzerland to buy them new! see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hang_(musical_instrument)
and have fun with the links.
However the smallest of Samba Sam's array of little clopping wooden boxes (what's it called?) makes a dull sound. Any ideas?

  10. yeah, i would love a hang too, but they are very expensive and I would imagine very hard to tune...when I'm rich!!!

"Little clopping wooden box"...sounds good to me Acky!!! I haven't seen it but from your description it sounds like it could be a latin Cajun box drum?

  11. Well i suppose it will be hard to create a top quality hang drum without some serious kit and knowledge but i have seen a link somewhere where a guy makes one out of a gas bottle so i suppose a gradual progression from the bodge onwards is my best bet !!!.And i think there simply called wood blocks those instruments but i suppose they may have many names. Anyroad i know what you mean i think i recall that they were in need of repair and one small crack can stop them vibrating properly so that may be the problem .But ill have a look cos they do sound good. Oh we need a joke here dont we !! mmmmmmm How many ee by drummers does it take to change a lightbulb ? just the one but the drum roll before its switched on lasts for 3 hours !!! Ill get me coat .

  16. OK just to make it a bit longer and the EE BY DRUM record for comments I thought I'd add another !!!! and because I've morphed again in the old name department I thought I'd add a comment or two under my new name !!! I'll probably change it again next week !! I'm sure your hangman Drum will be brilliant and far better sounding than one of those expensive jobbies !!!! What do the Swiss know that us yorkshire folk don't well ok they can yodle but who wants to do that when we can drum ??????
